Devin's Rec Room: CNY's first sober-active community gym

Devin's Rec Room, a sober-active community gym, held its grand opening Thursday, March 27.

Devin's Rec Room is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a community for people in recovery; and creating a healing environment while maintaining an active lifestyle. The gym's founder, Henry Brigham, named the room after his son, Devin, who lost his life from a heroin overdose in 2001, at the beginning of the opioid epidemic.

“This is a place where they can help heal, they can discover their own wellness, they can get fit, they can be around other people in recovery that are positive; and looking out the windshield instead of the rearview mirror.” Henry Brigham said at the grand opening.

The gym is located on 511 Butternut Street, in Syracuse, is free of charge to all members, and is open to anyone with 48 hours or more of continuous sobriety.
